On 25 April, UN Women is joining girls around the world to mark International Girls in ICT Day, drawing attention to the critical need for more girls and women in the ICT sector.

UN Women’s HeForShe solidarity movement for gender equality has concluded its inaugural United States #GetFree University Tour, which brought ideas of gender equality directly to students at colleges and universities throughout the Northeast. At each stop, a dynamic conversation among students, faculty, gender experts and thought-leaders explored challenges and opportunities for getting more girls and women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects and careers.

She can’t wait to start building solar lamps so that her community can have sustainable energy at last. One solar lamp could sell for up to 200 Quetzals, a lucrative business opportunity for a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field.

There are one million children in Gaza, yet hardly any sports fields or playgrounds. And this lack of safe outside play areas especially affects girls. The beach is basically off limits, with terrible sewage pollution. Youth unemployment is over 60 per cent.
