UN OCHA co-hosted a high-level round table on 17 March to highlight the importance of women's and girls' rights, resiliency and leadership roles in humanitarian action, including concerted steps to address gender-based violence.

Top United Nations officials today called on leaders to attend the World Humanitarian Summit in May and make concrete commitments to enhance gender equality, as women and girls are "central" to humanitarian action.

UNHCR

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and UNICEF today launched a joint initiative to increase protection for the growing numbers of children and others with specific needs arriving in Europe. The agencies plan to scale up 20 Child and Family Protection Support Hubs, known as "Blue Dots," along the most frequently used migration routes in Europe.

Women leaders with disabilities from the Network of African Women with Disabilities (NAWWD) representing 10 African countries, and refugee women with disabilities met in Nairobi, Kenya from February 11-12 to participate in the workshop "Enhancing the Network's Humanitarian Advocacy at Regional and Global Events".

As the world continues to witness record numbers forcibly displaced by war and conflict, there are many unsung heroes working tirelessly behind the scenes to help the millions of people caught up in these global crises. The UN Refugee Agency is asking for nominations by February 8th for the 2016 Nansen Refugee Award, to recognise those courageous people who have contributed directly to the refugee cause.
