    Senior United Nations officials from around the world are marking International Women's Day with calls to "Step It Up" with more resources and greater political action to achieve gender equality by 2030.

      The 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. The United Nations, through the Regional Coordination Mechanism, will observe the day in the Asia-Pacific region on 8 March, building momentum for the effective implementation of Gender Equality principles and targets of the Sustainable Development Goals.

      United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the first-ever High-Level Panel on Women's Economic Empowerment to provide leadership and mobilize concrete actions aimed at closing economic gender gaps that persist around the world.
